Esme’s Exhausting Journey Around the Block

If you haven’t inferred by now, Esme is our Bernese Mountain Dog on the home screen. We adopted her from a rescue that rescued her and 41 other dogs from an Amish breeder that was shut down. She is honestly the most perfect dog in the world but she comes with some challenges. She is missing her front left leg, which has made getting around on our floors at home quite the challenge. We’ll probably speak to a lot oof that in other posts but just a quick update on her highlights of yesterday. We’ve been trying to walk her more regularly now that the snow is melting. She doesn’t have the stamina that most dogs do because she has to hop instead of walk. I don’t blame her, though, that sounds exhausting just thinking about it. She got about a block and a half until she started to seem pretty tired so we turned around. She then started to do her patented 10 feet and then laying down.

For whatever reason the trick on the way back from the walk seems to be to start a small jog that she hops along after us. I do imagine we look ridiculous though all three of us jogging down the street, moving slightly faster than a brisk walk.

Eventually we got home and got her fed and let outside before the thunderstorm set in. Gave her a puppy cup of ice cream to calm her storm nerves. We’re still currently without internet but she seems to be enjoying herself. Less internet time for us means more couch cuddles for her.
