And the worst Fiancee of the year award goes to…. Me. I didn’t end up working this past weekend so I could stay home and take care of Yams who had dental surgery on Friday. That being said, she said she was doing perfectly fine. So, when the opportunity presented itself to play she said I could go. She really is the best. Now, was this a test, maybe. Did I fail this test, most definitely. But, I did get to play and there were no sour feelings about it so I think I’m good. I think our engagement is still intact.
I was running plo/padme and my opponent was running ewoks with Leia. He also splashed in a spicy Obi 2 because he’s not a fan of half of the ewoks.
We were playing the death donut so plo and gang ended up on the leftmost outside of the donut and Padme was on the right side but on the inner side of the outside because of an annoying terrain feature. But, let’s be honest, this photo was definitely just to show off those paint jobs. I still don’t think there is really any strategic audibles in deploying other than just start within two of your back objectives.
This was more so just showing the right side. Sabe went in the handmaidens dashed ” towards ” plo. Just to kind of get them up the board a bit.
Here is my opponents side. He doesn’t really have anything painted because he’s not especially fond of ewoks. By the end of the game he ended up loving wickett, spoilers but he said he still may never play them again.
We ended up with a scrum on the right side. And man can those murder bears murder. Once again though, Padme’s Faith and diplomacy side ended up coming in clutch and allowed me to continue to score that objective even though those handmaidens got rocked.
On the left side plo took early control of that point because he brought Leia over to the right side instead. He also gave Ahsoka a dash up to extend her threat range.
This was the scene at the end of the first struggle. There were a lot of casualties on the right side but I did end up squeaking it by. Once again highlighting how faith and diplomacy was essential here.
These last two photos are more just highlighting the state of affairs going into the next struggle. There were a lot of models sitting on dead points now.
I ended up going with the handmaidens first just because they would allow me to take two points at once. I did know that this wouldn’t last though because they were looking super fragile.
R2 and lando ended up coming and knocking out the handmaidens and taking that point. Because of Plo’s innate I was able to dash him up outside of activation and so when I did activate with him he was able to get up onto that middle objective.
A lot of crazy stuff ended up happening. At one point Obi ended up on the center point as well. Plo force pushed him off. I have found that the force push has been absolutely great for getting around Obis really annoying mind trick. The ARF troopers at one point would also wound lando and R2. All the while, Ahsoka was sitting on the very back point just chilling and getting me value. Conversely, very early on in the struggle Leia took my front point and was chilling there taking points. This match very well could have come down to who rolled better priority objectives. At the time it seemed like him but I did end up taking this one too. This one is crazy close though. If I didn’t take it with my last activation he would have auto taken it with his.
In the end it came down to the fact that the ARF troopers were able to get in position earlier with the dash off of plo, then on their turn just shoot from where they were which wounded lando and R2 like I said then would that point secure they could dash with defensive maneuvers and then climb to get one ARF on the point. This didn’t end up taking it, however, when Padme went for the last activation, All she had to do was move herself with her own ability and then climb onto the point for the win.
I think my initial assessment of this list was wrong. I thought they would be shoving everyone everywhere and getting wherever they needed to whenever they needed to. I do see that the out of activation movement is there but maybe I need to work on my deployment in order to have some of these more central figures that allow for this out of activation movement to trigger. Only once did I get ahsoka’s trigger and not once did I get sabes coordinated fire dash. In fact I haven’t been getting coordinated fire off in most of my games with this list and that’s something I need to work on personally.
I did feel like the list went down to a stiff breeze just like before so that just tells me that I need to be scoring quick which I knew. His list also went down super easily though. This is kind of just reminding me that that is what Shatter point is and maybe I was overreacting with the assessment of my initial game with the list.
All in all had a blast was a nice quick game and was still able to get the best fiance in the world some soup on my way home as a consolation prize.
